addictions stink

this post is a smattering of things. first this picture of sam today was too darn cute i had to put it up.

for two and a almost half weeks now i have finally acknowledged my idol of sugar and given it up - except for a sweet treat on sunday - as a celebration and day of rest. the Lord has gently prodded me for a few years now about my health and how i treat my body (His temple) nutritionally. essentially i existed from processed food to processed food, and my diet was mostly composed of chocolate, dairy, and processed sugar masked in many forms. within the past 6 months to a year, the natural consequences have been more apparent: extreme lethargy, acne, mood swings, hunchback of notre dame bloating, headaches, etc. etc.
finally i am obeying, and in His grace He is blessing. my daily bloating is gone, i have more energy, i've lost weight, i feel less moody, break outs are on their way out, and He only knows what else awaits. draw near to Him and He will draw near to you. the first week of this i had a sweet time with Him when all the kids were in school. i feel like i can hear Him more clearly. He is giving me discernment and clarity in an area long prayed over.

also He is faithfully changing my taste buds and opening up new flavors to me. i hope that it will be a great change for my kids as well. i am a fan now of smoothies and masking textures i don't like in icy goodness (such as strawberries and kale), and little man tries them too.

i realized i never put easter pictures up. grabbed one of the kids out front before church.

sam and his don don after a waterslide fun-filled afternoon.
so happy late easter and some encouragement to obey what He is prodding you to do. He will draw near to you. He will be faithful.

You have to elaborate on the healthy eating. What did you do?

jennifer! miss you lady.
basically i quit eating (and drinking) anything with processed sugar. since that was most of my diet, i've been exploring all kinds of things i hadn't before. lots of smoothies, fruit, edamame, homemade sweet potato chips, etc. trying out all kinds of vegetables at dinnertime i've never wanted to eat - and liking some of them thankfully. also my nighttime looks a lot different. typically i would eat most of my food for the day after the kids were asleep. i like to eat my sweets when no one is asking me for anything and i can enjoy in peace. it's been a complete overhaul.

I'm a big fan of smoothies with lots of greens in them too. Makes them much more enjoyable than eating them on their own. And Jack loves the smoothies as well, he's always asking for them!
