that had to hurt

yesterday when we got home from church abby ran out back barefoot to play on the playset. quickly she began hysterically screaming and hopping back toward the house.

i picked her up and saw a golf tee sticking out of her foot. i pulled it out and there was a small hole left in her foot. it was a broken golf tee and the wooden shards had gone in her foot about a 1/4 inch.

poor girl spent most of the afternoon with her foot up, wrapped in a bandage, taking tylenol and having a cold wet towel on her head. i sent her hobbling to school this morning and made a doctors appointment. it seemed as though it was getting infected.
all four of us made it to the doc this afternoon, and after she looked at the foot and a few other skin issues going on - haircuts, frozen yogurt, and three prescriptions later, we made it back home for me to make a flop of a dinner. thankfully, since i've started eating much healthier (and thus cooking at home a lot more), the dinners have gone well. tonight was not the case. why wouldn't you want to eat halibut that's been cooking double the time it called for and is still ice cold in the middle. apparently it was not de thawed all the way.

after backup pizza for the kids and a nice bath, we all did some reading and the kids went to bed. as russell sits at the dining table now working on his first sermon to teach, i have started the dishwasher, started more laundry washing and drying, gotten backpacks cleared out and ready for the morning, gone through some paperwork, framed and hung up some new prints and pictures, and am now typing this blog... i am thinking there is just not enough time in the day.

i'd still like to work tonight, still like to read a new book i got "orphan justice", still need to sit with russ and replan out our budget. i'd still like to get a couple of photo books done, add new products to my shop, and plan out meals for the week. and oh wait, there is that load of laundry out of the dryer that is getting really wrinkled. but what the heck, it always is wrinkled and i never iron russell's shirts.

so tonight i'll choose one thing, and put the rest tucked away for as soon as i can get to them. and i'll thank the Lord that Abby is okay and sleeping soundly in the next room. and i'll pray tonight for the deepening longing to bring a sweet orphan baby into our home. for the discernment to know what steps to take. to not fear and to trust. to hear clearly and obey.

I feel you on having so many things fill up our days, and being pulled in so many directions during down time; there just aren't enough hours in the day! Thank you for the reminder that sometimes we just need to choose one thing.
