in the car

i feel like i spend a good bit of time in the car with the kids these days. and in the car, a lot of things happen.
singing:
-complimenting each other and singing together
-making up songs
-singing princess songs (generally emma covers her ears and screams when abby sings too much ariel)
-or arguing about who is singing when, and what song is playing

playing on mommy's iphone:
-taking turns
-or whining/fake crying about who didn't get to play it first and how long the other has played

playing games:
-i spy
-the letter game (basically we just look for a letter they recognize on any sign or building)

having "conversations":
-what they did at school
-their friends/family
-and to be honest often i am trying to put out fires, get through a conflict, or just have them play quiet water still water so i can think for a second

yesterday though, there was a sweet conversation. it lasted approximately one minute, but is was a good minute.

abby: "who brought us to where we were born?"
me: "God did."
emma: "was He with us?"
me: "yes. He was with you."
emma: "was He looking at us?"
me: "yes. and He gave you both as gifts to mommy and daddy. but you are always His."
abby: "what causes us to die?"
me saying a quick prayer for the holy spirit to show me what to say they would understand: "sin. remember a long time ago when adam and eve sinned in the garden? that's when death came into the world. but if you believe in Him and tell Jesus you love Him and want Him to live inside you, then you don't ever really die. when you die here on earth, right away you go to be with Jesus and everybody else who loves Him, like mommy and daddy. and then, there won't be death ever again. and no crying, and no sadness. just joy and love."

it came and it went very quickly. but i'm thankful for even those few questions.

one of the nights when russell was out of town last month, they slept in my bed and i went in and found this. these are sweet moments to see...
