Today you, today I (Emma)

today you woke up in the early, early am (around 2), came out of your room, and called out for me. you asked me to come up and turn your fishy (nightlight) back on , and told me you wanted to sleep with me. after a gentle prodding for you to stay in your big girl bed and a scratch on the back and kiss on the cheek, you fell back asleep. today you woke up again in the early am and called out if you could sleep in bed with me. i told you to come on down, came to the stairs, and willingly took my sleepy little girl in my arms and carried you back to my bed. you snuggled up close and fell asleep quickly by my side. again today i gave in to the tugging at my heart that told me you wouldn't be a little girl forever, and that you wouldn't always want to sleep next to me cuddled close. today i chose to not mind getting up two and three times in the middle of the night to comfort and whisper love to you.

today you woke up halfway and said you wanted to go hunting, then you lay back down and fell asleep again. we just got back from the ranch and you have been talking a lot about hunting a big, big deer. today you woke up sleepy eyed and asked me to watch a movie, for your milk, and if you could sit in my lap. today i chose to take a few minutes out of the 45 i had to get us ready and off to mothers day out to sit with you so you knew that i wanted to be near you.

today i picked you up from school and you lit up with excitement when you saw me. you immediately began to tell me things about your day, and asked if you could hold me. you wanted to go see the big aquarium full of fish in the school hallway. today i loved coming to get you. i knew what kind of smile would be on your face, and i felt the precious love that you have for me even though i am such an imperfect mommy to you.

today we went swimming and you jumped off the side of the pool like a froggy. you and abby were counting to five and jumping in together, laughing and loving every minute of it. abby squished a snail and you said, "oh no, now his mom won't get to see him anymore."

today you cried about accidentally popping your pink balloon. you have a strong preference for all things pink, at the top of the list being your "beautiful dress from the wedding". you asked again today, as you have every day for the past two months, if you can wear your "beautiful dress from the wedding". today i chose to let you wear it again in the afternoon, and washed it again, as i have pretty much daily. today i chose not to care that you don't want to wear any other clothes you own, and what you run and play in your dress as much as you wanted.

today you said a precious prayer thanking Jesus for mommy and daddy and emma and abby and baby brother samuel. today i am reminded that He loves children so much. their faith is so unquestioning and so simple. mommy and daddy tell stories about Jesus and His love, and you believe and speak truth in your little girl ways.

today your daddy asked you what makes you beautiful, and you said, "Jesus made me". we reminded you it wasn't because of what you have on or what people say to you, but because you were perfectly made by the creator to be beautifully his. today i felt my heart swell with love for you and wondered in awe at our God who is the author of love, and adored Him for His ability to love me as He does. today i know that i am so blessed to be your mommy. i get to parent you. what a huge a high calling. Jesus help me to mother in a way that is pleasing to you. help emma be drawn near to you.
