this (part 5)

i spent a good eight hours scraping turquoise and pink wallpaper out of this room when we first moved in the house. russell and my brother-in-law daniel laid the wood floor themselves, and russell and i painted together, after taking this paint color back to the store five times to manipulate the color over and over. never again would we get this exact same color. what matters much more than the look that came out however, is the things that we have done here.
this room spent a good three years with no dining table in it. we couldn't afford/didn't want to spend any money on a table for a long time. we ate at the breakfast table most of the time, even with company, and besides, the girls learned to walk in here.
abby doing the monkey walk.. always a favorite.
this was the first time the girls wore leotards. we got them to wear around the house to dance in. they spent a lot of time in this room hiding behind, pulling on, reading by, and laughing in, the curtains.
by this window we have waved goodbye to daddy going to work and blown kisses, and watched for him to come home too many times to count. there have been a lot of happy squeals come out of the girls in this room, as they saw daddy, nana and papa, don don and pappy, becka, ash and jere, or any number of people they know and love come to see us. squeals and then running to the door.

but we can't forget there were many time outs in this room as well. there was a season where they really didn't like being put in the corner in this room, but that quickly passed as we could tell they really cared less and less about time out.
we have spent a lot of time eating and talking around this table with family, friends, and neighbors. almost a year ago it kind of transformed into the space i started to sew in. i couldn't find a picture of the chaos it became, but this is a good one of me with sam trying to sneak in a little sewing during one of the days the girls were in preschool. good try paige. good try.
shhh... they are telling a secret.

i haven't posted on your blog in awhile. but, i just caught up. i'm not sure why or where you are moving, but i just went through the same thing. a move. i love your series on your home. the rooms. the memories made in your home. we just moved 1200 miles away from our home. the boys only spent 13 months in it. but, it was so sad saying goodbye to the place where SO many firsts happened! look forward to reading the rest!
