ridiculous

for the past five years my husband's family has had a ridiculous costume night. and ridiculous costumes are rewarded by much joy and laughter, and yes, even a small trophy. in the past there have been large quantities of food, excellent decorations, kareoke, and... my personal favorite... the dance party.

this is the most fun and wonderful family, and they also are very competitive. and the prize for first place acheivement - a little trophy. not much you might think, but it is the symbol of victory. everyone votes for one girl and one guy. russ has gotten second place almost every year, but this year he finally clenched a win. he went as papaw erv (again). last year he was the younger version, and this year he was the older version.  papaw erv was one of russell's grandfathers, and had some very unique characteristics,
which russell imitates very well. he stayed in character all night and was hilarious.

i tried really hard last year, going as margot tenenbaum from the royal tenenbaums.  here are photos from other previous years where russ was serena williams and rod stewart. i feel really good about my performance, although i knew i wouldn't win because not many of the  family has seen the movie. so this year i last minute decided to be tinker bell - as much for the girls enjoyment as the ease of the costume. samuel also got a last minute costume as a prince, to go along with his princess sisters.

 we love our cousins

three brothers: dan as the columbian coffee guy from the commercials (unfortunately i didn't get a picture of how daniel had his dog dressed as a donkey), jason as adam lambert, and russ.

for a bit i thought they were going to dress in my dance costumes from when i was a little girl because they love those, but in the end the princesses won out.

on halloween night we decided to try and do something different and more interactive where we could have conversations with people... we made caramel apples. it was a hit.
