opening dove

this past weekend was the opening of dove hunting down at the ranch. so we escaped to south texas listening to don williams and george strait, and the flat landscape and beautiful skies surrounded us for a long three day weekend. this year, the girls went out on the evening hunts with us. emma in particular was adamant about going out with us, while abby was less so, but once out there, she really wanted to pick up the dead birds. the other highlight was finding some "buck deer horns" on the last hunt. some little bucks had shed their antlers. emma was really excited because she is all about buck hunting with daddy, and can't wait to get up in the stand with him in the winter. tonight, she brought in the antlers from the car and washed them with soap, proclaiming, "oh, isn't it beautiful all clean and shiny"!
sweet cousin danna almost got a kiss. he decided no.
we do a lot of this between playing out in the heat.

the water slide helped everybody cool off a bit.

Precious pics, Paige! You really have a photography gift...but I'm thinking your sweet subjects make it a little easier :). I wanted to show you my post from when we went down there--wondering if it's the same kitten? I can't wait to show the kids your pics.
