today i am writing about one little word. through various blog routes i came upon this post that inspired me to choose a single word that i want to sum up what i want for myself in 2011. a word that i can focus on every day, in any moment i need to grab it, to live by. i thought of a lot of words, but the one i kept coming back to was joy. i think because there has been such a lack of true joy in my life. and i want it so desperately. and He wants it for me so desperately.
psalm 66:1-3 "shout for joy to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise! say to God, how awesome are your deeds!"
psalm 92:4 "for you, o Lord, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands i sing
for joy."
psalm 119:111 "your testimonies are my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart."
proverbs 17:22 "a joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones."
galatians 5:22 "but the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."
james 1:2 "count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness."
1 peter 1:8-9 "though you have not seen him, you love him. though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls."
what could be more exceptionally good or satisfying than Jesus? nothing. and for me to experience the great delight and happiness, i first need to fill myself with more Jesus. more time in his Word, more listening to his voice, more talking to him in prayer.
a song comes to mind:
Lord, i want more of you.
living water rain down on me.
Lord, i need more of you.
living breath of life come fill me up.
already in just picking this word i can feel i am stepping closer to him. i want to be a person full of the joy of my salvation. i want my kids to see Jesus in me, and draw near to him too. i don't want it to ever be fake for me, but true joy overflowing from a heart that knows and loves Jesus. i'm excited about this year. i'm excited to have more joy.
i want to have just as much joy in these moments...
as these...
want to join in and choose one little word?

I absolutely love this, everything that you have put into this post. I've seen this idea in the blog world and have thought of doing it as well. Now, I am more movtivated to do so. I too, feel the extreme desire to be closer to Jesus and feel the joy that you can only gain from being close to Him. Thank you for this.
